Until somebody else loves you.
Well, I am am waiting to make somebody
Somebody soon.”

Found Words – Rainer Maria Rilke

*Guest Post*

“Being an artist means, not reckoning and counting, but ripening like the tree which does not force its sap and stands confident in the storms of spring without the fear that after them may come no summer. It does come. But it comes only to the patient, who are there as though eternity lay before them, so unconcernedly still and wide. I learn it daily, learn it with pain to which I am grateful: patience is everything!”

Written Words – ::stay::

August 29, 2011

let’s stay right here
he wrote
where the excitement pulses
and dreams come easy

let’s stay right here
he said
lips curled slightly upwards
in anticipation of the next joke
such innocence

willingfully disbelieving
that things could ever change from this moment
let’s stay here

where every little thing
seems like it has meaning
and every whisper
is enough to make him believe again
in the silly little things
and the stories that make them

let’s stay here

and listen to music
holding hands
eyes shut

stay here

where he can’t stop writing
and inspiration is easy

stay here

and both flirt for a moment
with the idea
but let it linger

stay here
please
stay

Written Words – Concerned

August 22, 2011

when did I become so concerned
with what other people say
or think
or write

or just being perfect?

because even when the terrifying moment passes
it’s embarrassing
and I don’t handle that as well as I used to

I like myself best when I’m swashbuckling
almost a caricature
I like having my shoulders back

but I slump in response
all too often for my taste
as if there wasn’t enough pressure in the world

and so my resolutions read
like a diary on the first day of high school
and maybe
to do it right
to do it perfect
are not so important after all

I can grit my teeth and tell myself
to be less concerned
but it is just that

an effort

Written Words – an accident

August 16, 2011

It’s a little accident of life
but one I’m grateful for
me and you

just a glitch in space and time
a passing dance on frenchman
one or two phone calls
because there was no one else

exciting and safe
two children on a seesaw
knowing that sooner or later
one must jump off
but for now
back and forth

things said that were mostly meant
even if the friendship is an accident

a tear in space and time
in which two people aligned
briefly
to dance
briefly
but beautifully

what is left
but goodbye and thank you
and maybe one last song
or moment
while it lasts

Written Words – Writing You

August 15, 2011

sometimes I write you
not a letter but fiction

and I don’t know if…
it’s because I like you
or because I worry

sometimes I write us
because the littlest exchange
is fodder for inspiration
and it’s only later
I think of the right thing to say
to capture the moment and
extend it

or maybe in the moment there are a hundred distractions
and I write them all away
slowly
as if the world revolved around my words
and sometimes it does…

sometimes I write you
because saying something isn’t safe
so I whisper it to the you I’m closest to
the one I’ve created

and if I’ve stylized the me I write
then I’ve also given you the life I want
feel free to reject the gift
it’s only fiction
but when I write you, you always listen…

sometimes I write you
because I like it better
it lets me dream in color

“It’s taken me many years, but I’ve come around to this: if you’re dumb, surround yourself with smart people. If you’re smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you.”
