“You know I tell ya, I gotta say, I’m enjoying adulthood. For a lot of reasons and I’ll tell you reason #1. If I want a cookie, I have a cookie, OK. I have 3 cookies or 4 cookies or 11 cookies if I want. Many times I will intentionally ruin my entire appetite. Just ruin it. And then I call my mother up right after to tell her that I did it. Hello, Mom, yeah I just ruined my entire appetite. Cookies!”

“How do I strike a balance between hating myself enough to be artistic while loving myself enough to believe I make anything?”
So last year for NIM I wrote a thanksgiving poem for our service about how we shouldn’t just thank God for the good things, but also everything else. I called it my new Thanksgiving day tradition. Still trying to figure out a way to get that audio up, but here’s my thank yous:
And, of course, a special thanks to my friends and family.

Thoughts from evening mass:
I spend a lot of time “trying to do the right thing.” Stressing about it. Praying about it. Working hard for it. And that’s made ever more complicated by the fact that the “right thing” is often not clear. Gray. Confusing.
Sometimes it’s necessary just to step back and say: I’m trying. That’s got to be worth something. The fact that I want to do God’s will. I want to get it right. I’m willing to sacrifice to do that. Even if I’m not wise enough to know what it always is.
Have you ever seen an idealist
With grey hairs on his head
Or successful men who keep in touch
With unsuccessful friends?
You only think you do
I could have sworn I saw it too
But as it turns out,
It was just a clever ad for cigarettes
Cause if it isn’t making dollars
Then it isn’t making sense
If you aren’t moving units
Then you’re not worth the expense
